About the Role:As the Engineering Director of Community at Canonical, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of open source community engagement. This is a unique opportunity to make a broad impact and drive growth across all engineering teams.Key Responsibilities:Assist various teams at Canonical in broadening their community engagement activitiesEnsure that all engineering teams prioritize community engagement in their workProvide guidance and support to new and existing contributors seeking to get involved or expand their roleConnect community contributors with mentors and facilitate cross-team participation in community events and mentoringCollaborate with the Ubuntu community team to ensure high-quality community processes are consistently implementedWhat You'll Do:Collaborate proactively with multiple distributed teamsHelp engineering teams establish and achieve community engagement goalsEstablish consistency in community process, engagement, and interaction across engineeringInfluence others and represent technical insight to customers and other engineersSpend a significant amount of time mentoring others and providing cross-team inputWork from home with occasional global travel for internal and external eventsCollaborate with developer advocates and PR teams to promote Ubuntu and related technologies via blogs and social mediaIdentify relevant influencers and devise plans to effectively engage with themWhat We're Looking For:A long history and clear public record of community engagement, particularly with open source communitiesThe ability to represent Canonical/Ubuntu externallyExperience leading successful projects and teamsArticulate communication skillsComfort with preparing and giving presentationsA passion for technology and working with brilliant peopleKnowledge of industry trends and new technologiesStrong collaboration and influencing skillsCuriosity, flexibility, and accountabilityA BS/BA or equivalent in Computer Science, Technical Communication, English, or a related fieldAbout Canonical:Canonical is a pioneering tech firm at the forefront of the global move to open source.
