Job DescriptionThe United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is responsible for coordinating a response to emergencies.
Our mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors.This position is located in the Operations and Advocacy Division, OCHA Venezuela.
The incumbent reports to the Deputy Head of Office, OCHA Venezuela.We are seeking a Humanitarian Affairs Officer/Head of Coordination Unit to lead our team in Venezuela.ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day activities of the team, providing oversight for all substantive/programmatic, logistic, administrative, and security issues.Monitor, analyze, and report on humanitarian response and developments in the country.Lead and/or participate in large, complex projects, coordinating international humanitarian assistance for complex emergency situations.Assist in the production of appeals for international assistance and ensure proper use of donor contributions.Organize and prepare inter-cluster meetings and ensure alignment with HCT priorities.Assist national government counterparts in capacity-building for emergency situations.Initiate and coordinate activities related to technical cooperation in disaster response.Analyze and assist in introducing new technologies for disaster management.Prepare studies on humanitarian and emergency relief issues.Partner with other humanitarian agencies to plan and evaluate assistance programmes.Establish and maintain contacts with government officials and other organizations.Organize and participate in work groups and meetings related to humanitarian matters.RequirementsAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, social science, public administration, international studies, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field.A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis management, or related areas.Experience representing a UN agency or NGO at the national level.The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year.
